Celebrate Easter Weekend Safely at Dinokeng Game Reserve

As Easter approaches, Dinokeng Game Reserve eagerly anticipates welcoming visitors for a rejuvenating long weekend in nature. However, with an expected surge in visitors during this holiday period, it's imperative for all guests to observe the reserve’s rules and regulations, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

With the anticipation of higher footfall during the Easter weekend, Dinokeng Game Reserve advises holidaymakers and day visitors to secure permits and conservation fees online in advance. This proactive approach ensures smoother entry procedures and minimises delays, allowing guests to make the most of their time in the reserve.

Safety Measures and Regulations

To guarantee the safety of both visitors and wildlife, Dinokeng Game Reserve enforces strict rules and regulations. These measures are put in place to mitigate risks and foster a harmonious coexistence between humans and animals within the reserve. Here’s a breakdown of some key regulations to adhere to:

Enter at Your Own Risk: Dinokeng Game Reserve is home to the Big 5, where dangerous animals roam freely. Guests must understand and accept the inherent risks associated with exploring such a diverse and untamed environment.

Speed Limits: Speeding poses a significant threat to both wildlife and visitors. With hundreds of animals and birds falling victim to speeding vehicles each month, strict speed limits are enforced throughout the reserve: 50 km/h on tar roads, 40 km/h on dirt roads, and 30 km/h on self-drive routes.

Respect Road Rules: General road rules apply within the reserve, ensuring orderly and safe travel for all.

Stay in Your Vehicle: Except in designated areas, guests must remain inside their vehicles at all times to minimise potential encounters with wildlife.

No Walking or Cycling: For safety reasons, walking or cycling within the reserve is strictly prohibited.

Wildlife Right of Way: Animals have priority on the roads, and guests must yield to them. With no fences alongside the roads, wildlife may freely cross, and it’s essential to exercise caution.

Prohibited Vehicles: Motorbikes are not permitted on the self-drive routes to minimise disturbance to the wildlife.

Passengers are strictly prohibited from riding on the back of bakkies.   Passengers can only travel on the back of bakkies inside closed canopies. Sitting or standing through window openings or sunroofs is not allowed.

Firearm Declaration: Guests carrying firearms must declare them upon entry to the gates, adhering to legal requirements.

No Feeding Animals: Feeding animals is strictly prohibited as it can lead to aggression and dependency, ultimately endangering both animals and visitors.

Fire Safety: Unauthorised fires are not permitted except in designated areas, ensuring the preservation of the natural habitat.

Pet Policy: Pets are not allowed within the reserve to maintain a safe and undisturbed environment for wildlife and visitors alike.

Swimming Prohibition: Swimming is prohibited in waters inhabited by crocodiles and hippos to prevent potential encounters with these dangerous animals.

Preservation of Flora and Fauna: Guests are reminded not to remove any plants or wildlife from the reserve, respecting the delicate balance of the ecosystem.

Litter-Free Zone: Littering is strictly prohibited to maintain the pristine beauty of the reserve.

Noise Control: Dinokeng Game Reserve operates as a noise-free zone, ensuring a tranquil environment for both wildlife and visitors.

Drone-Free Zone: Flying drones within the reserve is strictly prohibited due to restricted airspace regulations, with violators subject to criminal prosecution.

Ensuring Compliance and Safety

To reinforce these regulations, Dinokeng Game Reserve has implemented plans to enhance visibility and monitoring, with traffic officials and visitor management personnel stationed throughout the park.
