THORN TREE BUSH CAMP

Where campfires burn and bush memories are made.

OVERVIEW

Started by campers and now ten years in the making, Thorn Tree Bush Camp is a family-owned bush camp in the heart of Dinokeng Game Reserve. What began as a dream and a piece of bush-veld has grown into a relaxed getaway where guests can slow down, reconnect with nature and enjoy the bush at their own pace.

We offer a range of self-catering accommodation options, from comfortable tented units, cabins and family camps to spacious private campsites and a remote off-grid wilderness campsite for those looking for a more traditional wilderness bush camping experience. Whether you’re a couple seeking a quiet break, a family on holiday or an experienced camper wanting to get closer to nature, there is something for everyone.

Unlike larger commercial lodges, Thorn Tree Bush Camp focuses on providing a genuine bush experience. Most of our units are canvas based, our showers are heated by wood-fired rocket boilers, and a few wood-fired hot tubs. Wildlife regularly moves around the camp, even Elephant enjoy visiting from time to time.  Behind the scenes, our very friendly team takes great pride in welcoming and running smoothly, helping guests feel at home from the moment they arrive.

Days can be spent relaxing around the swimming pool, enjoying the large thatched lapa, exploring Dinokeng’s self-drive routes, restaurants, picnic sites or joining a guided game drive or bush walk, or simply sitting back and enjoying the sights and sounds of the bush. As the sun sets, campfires come to life, jackals begin calling in the distance and the stars awaken the night sky and nocturnal wildlife.

Situated in the eastern section of Dinokeng Game Reserve, Thorn Tree Bush Camp offers the freedom and privacy of self-catering accommodation and camping while providing easy access to self-drive and reserve. Ten years on, the camp remains owner-run and true to its roots — a place where nature, wildlife, campfires and time spent with family and friends still come first.
