Conservation Events at Dinokeng Game Reserve

In big open eco-systems nature is self-regulating. But in smaller reserves – and in South Africa this is anything beyond Kruger National Park and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park – constant monitoring and management intervention is necessary. Maintaining healthy gene pools, balance predators and prey ratios and avoid over-utilization, and not to forget the control of alien species.

Such management interventions include but are not limited to collaring and the renewal of collars, application of contraceptives to manage the populations and the capturing of big cats for exchange with other parks to avoid inbreeding.
